About this calculator
Fat FIRE means retiring with a larger nest egg so you can maintain a comfortable or luxurious lifestyle—higher travel, housing, or discretionary spending. Your Fat FIRE number is the portfolio needed to support that annual spending at your chosen withdrawal rate (e.g. 4%). Same formula as the FIRE Number calculator: annual expenses ÷ withdrawal rate.
Use it to see how much you need for a higher retirement lifestyle and how many years of saving will get you there. Compare with Lean FIRE or Flamingo FIRE for different lifestyle targets.
How this is calculated
Fat FIRE number = Annual expenses ÷ Withdrawal rate. Years to Fat FIRE are computed by projecting your current savings plus monthly contributions at the expected return until the balance reaches that number. Same logic as the FIRE Number and Investment Calculator. Results are for illustration only.
