About this calculator
Flamingo FIRE (also called Regular FIRE) is the middle ground between Lean and Fat FIRE: a moderate retirement lifestyle—not ultra-frugal, not lavish. Your target annual spending might be around 70–80% of pre-retirement income or a fixed moderate amount. The math is the same as the FIRE Number calculator: annual expenses ÷ withdrawal rate = FIRE number.
Use it to plan for a balanced, sustainable retirement and to see how many years of saving will get you there. Compare with Lean FIRE (smaller number, faster) and Fat FIRE (larger number, more lifestyle).
How this is calculated
FIRE number = Annual expenses ÷ Withdrawal rate. Years to FIRE are computed by projecting your current savings plus monthly contributions at the expected return until the balance reaches that number. Same logic as the FIRE Number and Investment Calculator. Results are for illustration only.
